How Can God Love Me?

Any honest person will admit that he or she is a sinner. Each of us have sinned so many times that would could never come up with a legitimate count of all of our sins. Our sins are simply innumerable.

Even the born again Christian who has had his or her sins forgiven by faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (see John 3:1-18 and 1 Corinthians 15:1-4) must realize that we continue to fail the Lord Jesus and commit sins to an astounding level over a lifetime. We are thankful for God’s forgiveness (1 John 1:9) and we do not doubt the redemption we have received through His blood (Colossians 1:14) which provides us continual cleansing and forgiveness of sins.

But beyond the Biblical doctrine and theological fact and truth, we still wonder and stand in awe of the love of God. With much thought, at all, we are left to wonder: How can God love ME?

The quick and obvious answer is that God can only love us because He is love (1 John 4:8). Just as surely as it is impossible for God to love sin, it is equally impossible for God not to love those who might potentially be saved and those whom He foreknew would be saved. Just think about the truth found in John 3:16 and Romans 5:8: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 KJB

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5: 8 KJB
These and other infallible statements in Scripture show us that God loved the world and died that all might be saved, if any of the “all” would believe in Jesus–which is to believe on His Gospel. And we are told that this act of love was provided for us, while we were YET sinners. A holy God providing for the salvation of an unholy race, even while they remain stained with the muck and mire of sin.
