Baptists Teaching “Doctrines of Devils”

Professing Christians abusing God’s word to bind divorced believers…

The Bible says, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” (1 Timothy 4:1)

Paul warns that one of the marks of apostasy in these last days will be in the practice of “forbidding men to marry.” (1 Timothy 4:2-3) This is called a “DOCTRINE OF DEVILS” (see verse 1).

Roman Catholic Doctrine of Devils Rome has forbidden men to marry since before the 6th century. This pagan practice was natural for the Roman Catholic “church” whose practice has always been to swallow pagan peoples by adopting their practices and simply modifying them as necessary. For example, pagan temples were simply converted into Catholic cathedrals and the idols renamed after Biblical characters or Roman Catholic “saints”.

Likewise, Rome adopted the pagan priesthood which follows the pagan priestly law of celibacy among the priests. There is absolutely no Biblical basis for Rome’s celibacy laws. Their practicing of forbidding their so-called priests to marry is a doctrine of devils.

Eastern Orthodox Doctrine of Devils  The Eastern Orthodox cult allow priests to marry, but once they become what they call “bishops” they cannot marry if they have not already done so and they cannot remarry if their spouse leaves or dies. This form of religious torture is no less satanic.

Imagine being married. Your wife dies. You are now condemned to a life of solitude for as long as you live, or to find some other occupation for your life.

Any way you slice it, Rome, Orthodoxy and some BAPTISTS teach a doctrine of devils.

The Baptist Version of Celibacy

In case you are not aware of it, some Baptist churches forbid men (and women) to marry if they are EVER divorced for ANY reason. This represents a small number of Baptist pastors and churches, but is a horrible blasphemy against the grace of God and provides for opportunities for the enemies of the Gospel to paint New Testament Baptist churches in a negative light, as many don’t realize that the number of these Baptists is very small.

God says: “But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.” (1 Corinthians 7:15)

In spite of God’s clear instruction, some Baptists reject God’s word and place people under bondage, even if that person is suffering the loss of a rebellious spouse who has deserted them or become sexually involved with another person. Whatever the motivation these Baptists have for adding to God’s word and teaching this horrible doctrine, it is a Satanic doctrine and practice.

Still other Baptists teach that divorced men can no longer serve in ministry, even if the divorce was due to adultery committed by their spouse!

Adding To The Word of God

Revelation 22:18 warns, “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.”

One of the most horrible examples of men ADDING to God’s word is found in the “interpretations” of 1 Timothy 3:2. This passage says, “A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife…”

Now, first we must deal with what is said. Do you see anything about divorce and/or remarriage in that passage? No, it’s not there. God did not say anything about divorce and/or remarriage in this passage. How can these Baptists add to God’s word like that and claim to be BIBLE believers?

Read it out loud. Did you say the word, “divorce” or “remarried” while reading 1 Timothy 3:2? No, because it’s not there.

It’s that simple.

Proverbs 30:6 says, “Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.”

I urge you not to add to God’s word.

“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” 1 Timothy 4:16

The Spirit of the Pharisees

Most discerning believers will pick up on a prevailing pharisaical spirit among the men who teach this doctrine of devils. They have also been blessed with a faithful wife. But instead of simply being thankful, they also become PROUD.

“Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.” Proverbs 16:5

Church Politics

Many of the men who teach this doctrine of devils do so, not by conviction but as the result of coersion, intimidation and their own fear of losing their associations. I have had men tell me that they understand the truth on this issue only to then say to me, “But I can’t teach THAT. They’d hang me at high noon the next day!”

The truth of the matter is, church politics is as bad in fundamentalist circles today as it is in apostate denominations. This explains why God has been judging so many fundamental churches and preachers the past three decades. If you are not aware of the fall of dozens of fundamental churches and pastors, exposed for their hypocrisy and sin, then you haven’t been out much!

Many men compromise their convictions by saying, “Well, it’s the historic position of our association/denomination/school/church and I’m not going to try to change decades or centuries of tradition.” That is a sad ‘stand’. Such men are joining with their Pharisaical brethren who, “made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.” (Matthew 15:6)

The Commandment of God

Many of these folks teaching doctrines of devils like to blame Jesus Christ. They take the words of Jesus from Matthew 5:32 and ignore the context and the clear teaching, as well as the comments of other Biblical writers.

In Matthew 5:32, Jesus said, “But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.”

Now, watch this closely. Some of you reading this won’t believe what I’m about to say, but it is TRUE. These modern-day Pharisees try to say that Jesus is telling us that the woman who is divorced is forbidden from marrying UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! I am NOT making this up.

What the blind bats seem to get hung up on is the 6th grade English of our infallible King James Bible. Jesus is saying, clearly, that a man should not divorce a woman unless she is a fornicator. And if a woman IS divorced for committing fornication, THEN she is guilty of committing adultery and causing her new “husband” to commit adultery by marrying in that state or condition.

Is that clear enough?

Countless thousands of believers have suffered divorce through no fault of their own. Some have a judgment of divorce granted to their rebellious spouse on the unbiblical grounds of “incompatibility”. They are divorced against their will. Others divorce on Biblical grounds because of an unrepentant adulterer or adulteress.

Then, to add insult to injury, these vicitims of the sin of their spouses and the sin of a depraved, fallen family court system wake up and return to churches seeking support, only to receive rejection. They have a preacher teaching doctrines of devils condemn them to a life of loneliness, forbidding them to marry. All because that “preacher” has the brain function of the typical farm animal.

Those Forbidden To Marry By The Commandment of God

There IS someone who is fordibben by God’s word to remarry and these are the ONLY people forbidden to marry: Those who have divorced and/or abandoned a husband or wife WITHOUT Biblical grounds.

Paul spells this out in 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 saying, “And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.”

When Paul says, “Yet not I, but the Lord…” he is giving you the INSPIRED interpretation of the words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 5:32!

Paul says that JESUS says that anyone divorcing on unbiblical grounds is condemned to deal with the repercussions of their sin or find themselves living in a state of adultery if they go on to marry, again. That is what Jesus SAID and that is what Paul tells us that Jesus said.

I urge you to IGNORE the pompous embiciles who may be torturing you with false doctrine on this matter.

Men With A Diabolical Mission

If one were to grant the benefit of the doubt, this egregious error against God and His word may seem to simply stem from handling God’s word carelessly. But I have yet to meet anyone who taught this that didn’t have an agenda behind his “interpretation”.

The doctrinal statement usually says something like this: “…because of the teaching of the scriptures a divorced person can never marry(which would be to commit adultery), be a pastor or a deacon.”

(Taken from this local Baptist church statement of faith)

Fishbowl Fundamentalists

Those who teach doctrines of devils, forbidding men to marry, MUST add to God’s word. It is clear to the honest reader that 1 Timothy 3:2 is telling those with multiple wives or concubines that they cannot keep more than one wife and remain in ministry leadership. That is what it SAYS.

But some American preachers judge God’s word out of context and in light of their own modern circumstances. So, unless they live in Utah, Arizona or Nevada where Mormon men practice polygamy by not legally marrying more than one wife, the modern Pharisee refuses to take God’s word at face value. He just can’t see why Paul would waste ink talking about polygamy, bigomy and concubinage when you don’t see that sort of thing in the Bible belt or in the northern states, at all.

These men live in a fish bowl and betray their utter ignorance of the world situation in Paul’s day and in our own.

Context, Context, Context

In Paul’s day, concubinage was widespread and continued to be in practice in Rome for several centuries. The 2nd century emperor Commodus had a Christian concubine named Marcia, as one researcher notes, “In those days, the (Roman) Church considered concubinage marriage as long as the Christian concubine acted as if it were.”[Notes on Church History A Church History Timeline Compiled by R. Grant Jones, parenthesis mine.]

By the fourth century, a man named Mohammad would claim to be a prophet and would start his own religion that included the practice of concubinage. This has been a continual issue for missionaries going all over the world, especially when dealing with the nations of Islam. Mohammad set the standard of having multiple wives and the Muslim man able to care for as many as four women is permitted under Sharia Law to have that many wives.

Today, that would mean that among the 1 Billion+ Muslims, when you lead a man to Christ, you have to begin to lead him to correct his situation if it involves multiple wives. And I can guarantee you that missionaries to Muslims run to 1 Timothy 3:2 for support when a convert claims to be called to ministry while still living with more than one wife!

And here in America, those with ministries in the western states especially need the sound interpretation of 1 Timothy 3:2 for dealing with Mormon converts. My sister-in-law is a nurse in the pre-natal unit of a large hospital in a western state and she has told heart-wrenching stories of the children born to child brides of closet polygamists. And then there are the many stories told by missionaries of seeing men arriving to get their newborn and “wife”, with several other wives along for the “celebration”.

The need to uphold the standard of monogamous marriage is greater today than it ever has been. And these abusers of God’s word who take 1 Tomthy 3:2 out of context, adding to God’s word and teaching doctrines of devils, are bringing confusion and dissaray to the their hearers and causing undue harm and suffering to people of whom this passage does not even speak.

1 Timothy 3:2 has NOTHING to do with the Biblical and legitimate practice of divorce and EVERYTHING to do with the practice of concubines.

Historical Facts Regarding Polygamy, Bigamy, Concubinage

Here are some encyclopedic and historical quotes demonstrating what we have just said about the need for clear Biblical teaching regarding those with more than one wife (polygamy, bigamy, concubinage, etc.):

Concubinage In Ancient Rome

“Concubines were permitted in ancient Greece and their children were legitimate if recognized by their fathers. Roman law also recognized concubines. Concubinage is still found in Islamic countries.”

“In Rome in 18 BC, in order to encourage regular marriages, the Lex Julia de maritandis ordinibus stipulated that only women of low rank should be chosen as concubines.”

Concubinage in Modern Asia

“Concubinage still exists today in various forms. Women are not forced into it like they were, and it is still mostly among Asian wealthy class. Having a concubine or mistress is accepted as part of the culture in Asia.”

Concubinage in Modern Islam

“Islamic law permits polygamy and concubinage. The Quran is quite explicit on this. It says a man may have up to four wives and as many concubines as he wishes and can afford. Concubines are female slaves whom it is permitted to use sexually.”

Satan’s Best Weapon Against The Ministry

Judgment Day

But regardless of the mindset or method to their madness, these men are all guilty of teaching a doctrine of devils, forbidding to marry. And on top of this, they have added to God’s words.

“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book.” Revelation 22:18
